Bile stasis (or cholestasis) is a condition in which bile cannot flow normally from the gallbladder through the bile ducts to the intestines, where it is needed to break down fats and support food digestion.

This can occur due to blockage of the bile ducts, inflammation in the bile ducts or liver, as well as as a result of bad habits such as alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet, improper medication, and the effects of certain diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver.

Symptoms of bile stasis may include:
– pain in the right side of the abdomen;
– dark urine;
– dizziness;
– vomiting;
– loss of appetite;
– bitter taste in the mouth and unpleasant smell;
– yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes.
